Jesse Darling

BONOTTOEDITIONS Showroom, Milan. February 24 - March 1, 2016

语 指南

BONOTTOEDITIONS will host at its showroom in the Palazzo Durini in Milan; a new body of work – curated by Geraldine Blais and Harry Woodlock – realised by artists Jesse Darling on the occasion of their completed residency and study at FONDAZIONE BONOTTO and NUOVE/LAPRIMAPLASTICS.

The artistic form in JESSE DARLING practice seeks to examine socio-perfomative aspects of the media along with the logic of contemporary consumerism. It is these aspects that have brought the artist to FONDAZIONE BONOTTO and NUOVE//LAPRIMAPLASTICS for a period of residency. The project will culminate in a presentation of new work that brings together for the first time, the different perspectives of the creative companies in Vicenza, united in the vision that art is a powerful vehicle for corporate responsibility and cultural growth, able to encourage new experiences and innovative methods of interaction between working environments and artistic thought.

Considered an important commentator of the “post internet” generation, Jesse Darling (1988, Melbourne, Australia) is one of the most interesting artists living and working in London today. After studying theatre and dance they approached the visual arts earning a Masters Degree from St Martin’s School of Art and latterly the Slade School of Fine Art. Working with a variety of media, from writing to sculpture through video and installation, the artist realizes the human condition in relation to the different linguistic structures and technologies that surround it, conceiving the body – social,
physical – as the place where the structures of power are expressed. Their recent shows include: Bread and Roses, Museum of Modern Art Warsaw; NTGNE, Serpentine Pavilion, London and Überschönheit at Salzburg Kunstverein.

NUOVE//LAPRIMAPLASTICS project was born out of the recent union between NUOVE//Residency and LAPRIMA PLASTICS in Isola Vicentina, Vicenza, Italy. NUOVE//Residency was established in 2012 as a residency project dedicated to international artists interested in learning, experimentation and production of work in ceramic and other traditionally produced materials synonymous with Nove, Marostica e Bassano del Grappa, Vicenza, Italy. NUOVE//Residency aims to strengthen the identity of this region through cultural exchange between local life and artistic experiences.
