AUDIOGUIDE

Created through the collaboration between Fondazione Bonotto, Vicenza, and Istituzione Bevilacqua La Masa in Venice, the edition Roll Up, is a book made of precious fabric, realized in 35 copies, which includes the works of artists assignees of an atelier at the Venetian institution in 2015.

Indeed, thanks to this collaboration, young artists of Atelier Bevilacqua La Masa could examine the Bonotto Foundation's archives and explore, through a series of appointments and some short residencies, the important Fluxus' and concrete, visual and sound poetry' collection belonging to Luigi Bonotto. Each artist then, reworked the suggestions gathered, through its own artistic practice, creating a series of works, realized in 35 copies, collected into a valuable edition: a book-object made of fabric, in which each artist has to arise its own art but using just the space of a pocket.
The works carried out, as different as the practices that characterize contemporary art, ranging from sound art to visual poetry, from sculpture to performance, to works that invite the viewer himself to take actions. Then, a brochure, published in Italian and English, outlines the project and give an explanation to the artworks it contains.

Some of Bonotto's fabrics have been used to create the edition. Indeed Bonotto is a worldwide leading company for the fashion industry. Its fabrics are famous, not only for the extraordinary creativity that allows to create more than 1000 kinds of fabric every season, but also for its research innovation that allows the development of new performance, thanks to the use of different raw materials, useful to give depth and materiality to the fabric.

The program of the artists' ateliers of Bevilacqua La Masa is among the oldest in Europe, taking origin in 1901 by bequest of Felicita Bevilacqua La Masa to the city of Venice. Today, Bevilacqua La Masa is the only Italian public institution to allocate every year 12 studios to as many artists, between 18 and 35 years old, active in different fields of the visual arts (painting, performance, video art, relational art, installations, photography, etc.) . These artists have the chance to work for twelve months in the spaces assigned to them, enjoying a full program of events reserved to them: this includes several opportunities of comparison with the audience, like in the occasion of the Open Studios, exhibitions, several studio visits by curators, journalists and others operating in the Italian area and abroad. The program finishes each year with an exhibition, combined to a publication.

The artists assignees of an atelier for the year 2015, who collaborated to the edition, are the following:Valentina Furian, Enej Gala, Richard Coats, Catherine Morigi, Francesco Nordio, Miriam Secco, David Sgambaro, Sebastiano Sofia, Matteo Stocco, Valerio Veneruso , Christian Manuel Zanon, Anna Zegna.
