Machine For Making Sense is a collective comprised of five Australian artists whose work explores the relationships between language, sound, text, speech, improvisation, composition and music. Co-founded in 1989 by Jim Denley (wind instruments), Chris Mann (voice and text), Rik Rue (digital and analogue tape manipulations), Amanda Stewart (voice and text) and Stevie Wishart (violin, hurdy-gurdy), Machine has produced tours, performances, site specific events, radio broadcasts, recordings and intermedia collaborations in Australia, the U.S. and Europe.
