The result of collaboration between the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera (Milan) and the Fondazione Bonotto (Colceresa), this book collects, for the first time in a monograph in Italian, a significant selection of public and private texts by George Maciunas (1931-1978), initiator of the famous Fluxus movement.
The selection – edited by Patrizio Peterlini and Angela Sanna – includes manifestos, newsletters, theoretical texts, event scores, works, letters, writings related to the Fluxhouse Cooperatives project and concludes with an interview with Charles Dreyfus Pechkoff.
Elaborated between 1962 and 1978, i.e. between the publication of the first Fluxus manifesto and the author's death, these pages highlight the founding aspects of the movement, of which Maciunas claimed paternity in vain, in addition to the assiduous commitment he made to organize it , promote it, animate it.
With equal commitment and fervor Maciunas, from a young age, devoted himself to writing, letting emerge a cultured, complex, ironic, nonconformist personality. Here we meet Walter De Maria, Dick Higgins, La Monte Young, Larry Miller, Nam June Paik, Yoko Ono and many other artists and musicians with whom Maciunas had intense relationships, collaborations and friendships. Furthermore, the importance that Italy had for him was fundamental, as many writings collected here testify.
